Ma’wa Collective: Newsletter #1

Over 9 months ago, we launched Ma’wa with one goal in mind: to plan trips and establish an adventure community rooted in faith, exploration, and self-discovery for Muslim-American women.

Since February 2023, we’ve organized 8 group trips across 4 states (California, Washington, New Hampshire, and Colorado), 10+ day hikes, and established a vibrant online community.

Our Instagram account has grown organically to 1900+ followers, our WhatsApp community has over 540 members, and our mailing list is over 500 women strong 💙

We’re thrilled to share the highlights from our last few trips and exciting news on what we’re up to in the future inshaAllah 👀

Embark Program

Ma’wa Collective and Founder, Nadah Feteih have been selected to join the upcoming Embark program with Founded Outdoors and REI. We can’t wait to see how much more we can offer to our community through this exciting collaboration! In the meantime, to allow us to grow and meet demand and interest we are looking for people that are equally passionate about our mission to join our team.

If you’re interested in working more with us in any capacity, please fill out any of the following forms:

Keep an eye out, our next group trips will be in January and/or February over the long holiday weekends (~Jan 15th and Feb 19th). We will be sharing flyers on Instagram and WhatsApp once details are finalized inshaAllah. Group Trip Recaps

Our last two trips were Fall Foliage trips at the end of September, led by Sara Filali from Denver Muslimahs Outdoors (DMO) and Nadah Feteih.

Our New Hampshire trip brought together 18 girls from across the country and we spent the weekend hiking and exploring in Franconia Notch State Park, leaf peeping along the Kancamagus Highway, and sharing deep reflections over a campfire on Saturday night.

Our Colorado trip was organized in collaboration with DMO and we had 15 girls join. It was peak fall around Grand Lake, Colorado and our participants spent the weekend completing a few nature walks, frolicking through meadows, and praying outside in nature Alhamdulillah.

Community Testimonials

Below are experiences from our previous participants, if you want to join our future girls’ trips and stay up-to-date with future programs in 2024 make sure you’ve joined our WhatsApp and Instagram community inshaAllah 💫

I am so glad that Ma’wa exists, I’ve joined two events thus far: a morning hike at a park in my state as well as a weekend trip to the White Mountains. After each one, I’ve had friends reach out to express how awesome this initiative is. The excitement is contagious, and I can’t wait for what’s in store for Ma’wa Collective!

Afnaan from Jersey City, NJ

I met one of my best friends from a Ma’wa trip, I was able to disconnect from my stressful corporate job that weekend and I was able to reconnect with nature. After my first trip, I became hooked and attended a second one and will definitely be joining future trips as my schedule allows it

Jana from Detroit, Michigan

I’d always wanted to be able to explore nature but could never do so comfortably with other hiking groups that often had a heavy male ratio. This experience has inspired and encouraged me by finally finding a community meant for me that I can trust. I can’t wait to dive deeper into more trips with Ma’wa
