Amina K. shares her experiences from the recent Santa Barbara glamping trip:

“There is nothing like summitting a peak. It doesn’t matter how many feet – the thrill of climbing those final few steps to reveal the view you’ve been chasing is completely unmatched. To revel in God’s beautiful creation that is this earth is the ultimate prize. To share that experience with other people is even more of a blessing.

I went into this trip not knowing anyone – a stranger surrounded by strangers in a brand-new place on an unfamiliar coast. It was the opportunity I had been searching for to stretch the boundaries of my comfort zone once again. Unbeknownst to me was how I would feel when I emerged from this blissful long weekend, comfort zone sufficiently widened. My heart grew when I met the 23 other girls in the same boat as me, eager to discover something new in the shady woods of Santa Barbara. It grew when we emerged atop Inspiration Pointe, brows sweaty but eyes and smiles bright. It grew when the 11 brave souls peered over the California coast from the highest wind cave in Gaviota. And when we ended the trip over that last campfire, melted marshmallows and chocolate decorating the ground, my heart felt like it was going to burst.

Ma’wa brings together Muslim women who all have one thing in common: the goal—and the need—to see and experience what the world has to offer. Behind fearless leaders there has emerged a collective that challenges our world views and what we’re capable of. The reward is coming together with a group of strangers and leaving with an unspoken bond between sisters. This trip and its meaning refreshed my gaze upon nature, dimming the world’s noise for a moment of respite in God’s name. We were reminded of His miracles and His mercy in those moments in the mountains. I have looked for those same moments every day since.”
